But the Cairns 1044 sports a rugged matte finish that echoes the quiet confidence of experience. Like the glossy 1010, the newer 1044 offers the proven protection and exceptional durability of Cairns' DuraGlass fiberglass composite shell. The through-color composite resists chipping and cracking. And because its matte finish isn't painted, everyday nicks and scratches are harder to see.

    My Second 1044

    My second 1044, really like this helmet. With some minor adjustments out of the box, it's very comfortable (especially w/ the leather liner). Like the features (defenders especially). Relatively lightweight for a traditional helmet. Great construction. The only real con I've had with both helmets is that you need to be particularly careful when screwing on the front shield. The nuts built into the helmet strip very easily if the screw isn't threaded correctly. Otherwise, great helmet. Would highly recommend the 1044 deluxe with defenders to anyone.

    the helmet itself fits ok a little heavy but the corners of the inside cap dig into my head mainly in the back but still very uncomfortable after a period of time

    I found this to be the best buy. I wanted a traditional modern fire helmet, that looked good with no ""in the way"" flip down visor or goggles, that was still NFPA compliant. Helmet weight is low along with the center of gravity, and looks great in black. Bottom line: best money I have ever spent for something that might save my life.

    This helmet is the best one i have ever owned. i have had four or five helmets from Bullard and Morning Pride. Cairns is the best one yet the 1044 is cheaper then the 1010. It just don't have the glossy finish. I have replaced all the stickers. I have 8 shamrocks around the top and the US and Irish flag on the back bill. Also I have an FDNY 343 sticker. I got my leather front from here and its great.

    THIS HELMET IS TOO HEAVY. THIS HELMET WOULD FIT SOMEONE WITH A SMALLER HEAD BETTER.
