Details

Answering the call of firefighters, MSA Cairns Helmets proudly introduces the 880 Chicago firefighting helmet.

Due to production delays, some models of this helmet not in stock may take up to 8 weeks for delivery.

Made possible through the use of recent advancements in materials technology, the 880 Chicago fire helmet is the lowest profile high performance style helmet on the market today. The 880 Chicago fire helmet is an unparalleled achievement in size, performance, and styling.

The Cairns® 880 traditional fire helmet offers a tough, high-temperature thermoplastic shell resistant to chipping and cracking, and a low-ride helmet design creates a low-profile for superior clearance and maneuverability. The 880's smaller, lighter, low-profile shell allows for optimum clearance and maneuverability, yet it has a very stable, balanced ride. Combines traditional style with high-tech performance.Three-position, rear-ratchet height adjustment ensures a secure and comfortable fit for all head sizes between 5-5/8 to 7-5/8.

Features & Benefits:
  • High-tech thermal impact cap provides increased heat and impact protection
  • Non-corroding, high-temperature glass-filled faceshield/goggle hardware
  • Rugged, high-temperature (TPR) edge trim will not melt or drip
  • Faceshield wing protectors for extra faceshield reinforcement
  • Soft black Nomex chinstrap features one-hand quick-release buckle and postman slide for quick removal and adjustment
  • Nomex or PBI/Kevlar earlapse for increased neck/ear coverage and protection
  • Patented shell release increases neck and head protection
  • Three-position rear ratchet height adjust for a secure and comfortable fit
  • SCBA interface front headband adjustment matches the fit of any SCBA mask.
  • Removable flannel or leather cushion liners
  • 5-year shell replacement warranty
  • Lowest-profile traditional-style fire helmet on the market
  • Meets all the protection requirements of NFPA 1971-2013
  • Minimal parts for lower service cost and easier maintenance
Due to production delays, some models of this helmet not in stock may take up to 8 weeks for delivery.

A sleek, low-profile, NFPA-compliant goggle designed to fit comfortably over most prescription glasses. The high-temperature frame allows fast lens replacement. Patented Speed Clips make strap adjustments easy, even with gloves on. The snap-on/snap-off mounting system consists of simple low-profile posts on the sides of the helmet. Goggles can be used alone or with a faceshield. They can be stored on the front or back of the helmet, or quickly removed, as desired.

Bourke Eye Shield. Traditional styling with these clear bourke eyeshields.  Bourke eyeshields exceed US-OSHA (CFR 1910) NBSIR-1977.

Note: Images shown are the old bourkes. NEW NFPA bourkes will ship on helmets ordered with bourkes.

Eye Protection Combinations (ESS Goggles with Bourke eyeshield): NFPA-1971-2018 Compliant

4”  Tuffshield® Visor. Although it costs you no more than the clear and smoke visor options, we at TheFireStore believe the Tuffshield visor offers distinct advantages. We supply it as the standard equipment visor on all Cairns Traditional and Deluxe Configuration helmets for some very good reasons:  Tuffshield is significantly more heat resistant. The Tuffshield Defender visor is heat-resistant up to 500° F. Other visor materials will start to melt at about 345° Tuffshield is a heavier grade material with more impact resistance. As the name implies, it’s just tougher.

The slight yellowish tint helps you see better, day or night. Like a pair of amber shooting glasses, they filter out harsh wavelengths and glare, improving contrast and revealing more detail under all lighting conditions—including looking at flames.  4” amber Tuffshield visor is compliant with NFPA 1971, 2013 edition. All visors meet ANSI Z87.1+ impact requirements.

    AWSOME HELMET!!!!

Posted by Verified Buyer on Jul 9th 2013

I LOVE THIS HELMENT!!!! BEING A SMALL GUY WITH THIS HELMET FITS HEAD MUCH BETTER THAN SOME OF THE BIG DOME HELMETS. WHEN I FIRST TRIED IT ON IT SEEMED TO SIT TO HIGH BUT ONE OF THE REPS AT THE FIRE STORE HELPED ME ADJUST IT, NOW IT FITS PERFECT. EVEN HAS A ADJUSTABLE FRONT HEAD BAND THAT IS QUICK AND EASY TO FIT A MASK PEICE.THE LOW PROFILE AND LIGHT WEIGHT MAKE IT PERFECT FOR TIGHT SPACES AND LONG DURATIONS WEARING THIS HELMET. I HAVE HAD THIS HELMET FOR ABOUT TWO YEARS AND HAVE NOT FOUND ANY NEGITIVE POINT TO IT YET WITH THE ONE EXCEPTION BEING IF YOU HAVE A LARGE HEAD. I WOULD DEFFINATLY RECOMMED THIS HELMET!!!!

to heavy for a small helmet

Posted by Verified Buyer on Apr 26th 2013

I bought this helmet because of the low profile and which they claimed was light weight. Its not light weight at all!!! It gets heavy after a few minutes and starts falling all over the place, just doesnt sit right.... and trust me, i have a small head. Its also tight on my temple causing head aches. If your looking for a helmet youll be better off with the 1010 or 1044 which is much lighter and comfortable. Trust me!!! Too heavy for a small helmet!

    Terrible helmet

Posted by Verified Buyer on Apr 9th 2013

This helmet sits too high on your head, which makes it top heavy. It wants to tip and fall off your head if you don't have it cinched down at all times. They're also incredibly uncomfortable. I get headaches from wearing it due to pressure points on the temple. We purchased Bullard helmets to replace these. They sit lower, and are very comfortable.

    the 880

I've had this helmet for just over 2 years now and I think it's a great helmet. It's held up through fires and stuff falling on it just fine. It's lower profile and rides better than the 1044 and 1010 and which is great. I've got the standard version and do wish I had gone with the Deluxe version. Not a big deal though. I've got a fairly large head (although not huge) and the helmet fits fine, so I'm curious as to how big of a head it would take to not fit properly. The shield does seem huge at 6-1/4"" and I will be going through MSA soon to get a 5"" shield for it. Other than that, it's a great helmet.

Great helmet, but too small for my head

Posted by Verified Buyer on Jan 2nd 2013

I got this helmet for Christmas. It's light, it's pretty comfortable despite being too small of my head. The plastic impact cap sits on the back of my head. It's light, and much less top heavy than the 1010 and 1044's I have tried. Unfortunately because of my large, and apparently oddly shaped head, it is on it's way back in exchange for a 1044. Ideally, find someone who has one and try it before you buy. But if you are looking for a traditional that is light weight, rides low and isn't too top heavy, this is the one! Get the deluxe too!
